A2 Level French Certification

Context

I passed my DELF A2 exam — the Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française. A2 is the beginner-intermediate level, meaning the ability to handle basic conversations, introduce oneself, talk about everyday topics, and understand simple written French. I earned that certification back in 2024. It was a solid first step in officially proving my French skills.

Now I'm working toward the B2 level. B2 is an independent user, real conversations, expressing opinions, arguing a point, and understanding more complex texts and audio. It's the level often required for university admissions or jobs in French-speaking countries, so I decided to start working toward it on my own this past year. It's a big step up from A2. But I'm giving it my best shot anyway.

What I learned

From the A2 test: I learned the fundamentals of French — how to handle basic conversations, introduce myself, talk about everyday topics, and understand simple written texts. I built a foundation in core grammar and vocabulary for routine situations. I also learned how the DELF exam works and what it takes to prepare for a formal language test.

From the B2 test (in progress): I'm learning a whole different level of the language — how to express and defend opinions, argue a point, understand more complex audio and texts, and write structured, detailed content. The grammar is more advanced, and the vocabulary covers abstract and professional topics. It's teaching me persistence and how to push through difficulty when progress feels slow.

From my different times living in France: I picked up practical, natural expressions, everyday speech patterns, and a better ear for accents and speed. Each stay built my confidence in just speaking and trying again.
