AMB Volleyball Tournament

Context

The tournament was the AMB Volleyball Cup in Espinho, Portugal, one of the largest international youth volleyball tournaments in the world. It brings together hundreds of teams and thousands of players from all over the globe, all competing in the same city over the course of a week. I went there with my team from Madrid to compete, representing our club on an international stage against some of the best young players out there.

What I learned

Through this experience, I learned a lot about volleyball skills and techniques. Playing against teams from all over the world meant I got to see different styles of play and pick up new things along the way. I learned new techniques, little adjustments in my approach, footwork, and positioning that I hadn't been exposed to before. Every match was a chance to practice against really high-level competition, which pushed me to improve faster than I ever would in regular practice back home.

Beyond the skills, I also learned how to compete at a higher level and handle the pressure. When you're playing against teams from different countries with everything on the line, you have to stay focused and composed no matter what. I learned what it really means to show up and compete, even when you're tired or the game isn't going your way. And on top of all that, I even picked up some Portuguese along the way, just basic words and phrases from interacting with other players and people around Espinho. It was a full experience, and I came back not just a better player but a more complete one.
